Test to Teachtm; not Test to Fail

The testing process is secure

The test duration and scoring follows the apt SCORING MATRIX. A sample table, based on a ten question minimum, is shown below. The actual minimum number of questions varies based on the amount of material presented in the course. Students start with a score of zero as shown in the upper left hand corner of the table. Each correct answer moves them down one row, and each incorrect answer moves them to the right one column. The test is over when they reach the bottom of the table. For example, if they answer the first ten questions correctly, the test is over with a score of 100. If they miss one question out of the first ten but answer the rest correctly, the test duration will be twelve questions and the final score 95; and so forth.

The colors are symbolic of: GREEN, excellent; YELLOW, passing; and RED, failing. The scores associated with passing and excellent are normally set to 70 and 90 respectively, as is indicated by the coloring of the SCORING MATRIX table shown above. However, instructors can set these limits independently for each course.

The testing is fair

Composite training statistics are regularly reviewed to assure test fairness. For instance, the cummulative percentage of incorrect answers given for each question is retained. An unusually high percentage is indicative of a poorly worded or ambiguous question in need of revision. The test scores are also reviewed by Gender and Ethnicity (based on the optional student registration data given) to guard against any bias in the testing.
